Backwater Gospel

We watched this movie I think maybe two trimesters ago and I thought I was pretty cool. If you haven't watched it I recommend you do. I love how it draws you in and then shocks you and disgusts you at the same time. I never thought an animation could make feel fear and just grossed out.

The story definitely has a message behind it. Personally I think religion is ridiculous and I found that believing in one thing/person or whatever is just weird, If there was a god people would have to go through certain things. Anyways I find this hilarious because people follow religion well religiously haha but really I think people have been bought up to be afraid to think otherwise and go against "god" or whatever, when really we are all here to do the same thing. be born, live and die. Anyways the message I received is that fear basically ruins you and nothing going to save you from it but yourself, not a 'higher power'...
I have no Idea if that made sense..hopefully it did...

Quick sketch

Quick sketch of the train station scene. Obviously will be a busy station but you get the point.

Time Time Time

Synopsis

Synopsis
Like any other winter morning, Hunter walks down to the heated pool in his complex as a part of his daily routine. As he is about to dive in a man reaches out and pulls him back away from the block and quickly walks away yelling “Check the water! Don’t thank me yet!” Hunter realises the pool heater isn’t working and is rock solid. In shock of what could have happened he starts to feel faint.

He stumbles back to his apartment. He sits down and turns on the news the take his mind off what just happened. He notices a red number (9125:04:53:02:03) above the reporter’s head, and comments to himself but then thinks nothing of it.

Ready for work and already on his phone, he starts walking. He finally looks up long enough to realise there are numbers above people’s heads. He thinks back to the reporter and in disbelief he stands there. He then goes up to people, swiping his hand over their heads and scaring them off and attracting unwanted attention.

At a pedestrian crossing it gets more intense with numbers everywhere. Hunter starts pushing through the crowd seeing if everyone has them. He runs to a parked car to see his reflection but sees nothing above his head. He stands in the middle of a busy business district looking confused and scared.

He runs to the hospital down the road. At the entrance an ambulance pulls in to carry out a young boy. Hunter stops to look with other bystanders. The boys number stands at five seconds and once hitting zero, the paramedic yells out, ‘we’ve lost him!” Hunter finally realises what the numbers may mean, a timer.

While running off, Hunter calls his girlfriend which goes straight to voicemail. He walks into an underground train station and impatiently waits for the next train to his girlfriend, Elisa’s work.

Struggling to comprehend, Hunter looks up at the TV in the train station and see’s the Mayor being interviewed for helping out the states engineering department solve ways of the eroding train tunnels in other cities.

Along with several others, Hunter gets on the arriving train. While silently going insane Hunter observes the people and their timers, determining whether it means it will be days, months or years for those people to die.

Unexpectedly the train lights turn off. In the darkness Hunter can only see the timers above all the countless people surrounding him.

In unison, the timers stop and quickly change to 10 seconds. He takes out his phone and tries to call Elisa. In the background others are yelling and crying. Finally Hunter says to himself, “Oh my god, don’t thank me yet.”  The timers disappear leaving only darkness and silence. The city is then shown from above viewing the collapsed train tunnel.

Story change

So my story changed. It started off as Hunter being this introvert character that had a restraining order against the one person he wants in his life. He gets saved by man and from that moment onwards he starts to see timers above their heads. Anyways the back story was just to much and I couldn't tie it all together. I ditched Elisa as another main character but still used her as his gf and used her to lead the story further.
Once the script is written I really think it will come together. But for now I hope my synopsis had a nice flow.

When I writing it I had trouble figuring out the conflicts. I was watching a move called 'fighting' that stars the gorgeous Channing Tatum and I realised that a conflict doesn't actually have to be very big to be named a 'conflict'.

May as well tell you what it's about:

Shawn (Channing Tatum) makes a living selling fake products on the streets of New York. After dealing with thieving losers, he's discovered by a guy called Harvey who find people that can fight in an underground fighting scene. He happens to be really good and starts winning fights which means $$$$$$.
Anyways throughout the film the conflicts are his high-school rival who is now a professional MMA fighter. I think maybe twice before they fight each other in the end for 100k, they bump into each, kind of reminding the audience that the first time wasn't random and that his rival does have a part in the ending of this story. Even it being a small bump in a club and exchanging not-so-nice things to each other it still adds the story and of course the conflict. On another part, shawn threatened Harvey with teaming up with one of Harvey's rivals and kicks him out. but literally minutes after the incident Harvey looks past it and take him under his wing once again. So it was a small conflict between the characters but it helped strengthen their relationship.

So watching this film helped me realise that conflicts don't have to be major!
